Europe

Updated: May 22, 2019

In Europe, their piercings were a bit more superstitious. European sailors were convinced that if they wore one earring, their eyesight would improve and they could become better sailors. They thought this would help them with their sailing skills. They also wore a gold ring which would signify that if that sailor was to wash up on shore dead, the person who found the sailor would use the ring to pay for the funeral. Men in Europe would always be found wearing at least one earring because women thought that this was attractive. Soon, women would start wearing pearl earrings and it became a sign of your wealth and your status in the community. Recently, last 100 years, nose piercings became very common in Europe and among European people living there.
